Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening condition where the heart suddenly stops, often resulting in death. COVID-19 patients with SCA face higher risks than those without the virus. Managing cardiac arrests and arrhythmias often requires a ‘defibrillator’, a medical device that restores normal heart rhythm by applying a high voltage shock across the heart. Unfortunately, most Indian hospitals lack access to defibrillators. Additionally, since trauma patients are at greater risk of cardiac arrest, it’s crucial for trauma ambulances to be equipped with defibrillators. However, only about 25% of ambulances in India are equipped with defibrillators, 5 mainly due to high battery costs, unreliable electricity, poor device quality, and affordability issues.
